Sara e André

Sara & André were born in 1980 and 1979, in Lisbon, where they live and work and studied, respectively, Plastic Performing at the Escola Superior de Teatro e Cinema (Lisbon, 1999-2005) and Visual Arts at the Escola Superior de Arte e Design (Lisbon, 1999-2005). Caldas da Rainha 1999-2005). Together they studied Painting at the National Society of Fine Arts (Lisbon, 2008-2011). They have exhibited regularly since 2006.

They carried out and participated in several individual and collective exhibitions, in museums, galleries and independent spaces in several countries, among which the recent O Colecionador de Belas Artes at Galeria Quadrum / Galerias Municipais (Lisboa, 2022); People at work / People at sports (with Vítor Teixeira) at Galeria do Sol (Porto, 2022) and 48 artistas, 48 anos de liberdade at MAAT (Lisboa, 2022).

In 2014 they presented the solo exhibition Exercício de Estilo at the MNAC-Museu do Chiado (Lisbon) around the work of Julião Sarmento. In 2017, they curated the exhibition cycle Curated Curators, at Zaratan – Arte Contemporânea (Lisbon), from which originated the book Uma Breve História da Curadoria (Documenta, Lisboa, 2019). In 2021 they conceived the special edition of the magazine Contemporânea Inquérito a 263 Artistas (Lisbon). They were part of the Ministry of Culture's Commission for the Acquisition of Contemporary Art (2019-2020), which led them to co-commission the exhibition Memórias Infinitas in the MIAA (Abrantes, 2021). They are represented in several public and private collections and their work is regularly published in books and specialized magazines.
