Rita de Sá
Santarém, 1980.
Lives and works between London and Caldas da Rainha, Portugal.
Visual Artist and Art Teacher. After graduating from ESAD.CR, in 2004 (Fine Arts degree) and Faculdade de Belas Artes de Lisboa, in 2014 (Master in Visual Arts Teaching) she spent few years teaching Visual Arts and Drawing (Escola Artística António Arroio, Lisbon) and collaborating with Art Museums (Centro Cultural de Belém and Museu Coleção Berardo, in Lisbon and at the British Museum, in London).
In her artistic work she explores the ways our perception and memory shape our vision. She aims to create a collection of images as a dictionary of marks, scratches, impressions and memories.
Her projects are tuned by personal experience but also by other people’s stories and journey – the spectator is always part of the picture. The images created are about memories, both private and collective. Are memories fighting with each other, making pressure, trying to overlap one another. Like playing games, who is the fragile or the strongest. Who is the winner?
Some of her solo and group shows were: After You, in Galeria Cisterna, Lisbon, 2021/22; Plei, at RE:CENTRE Art Residency, in London, 2019; Choose your Hero, at RE:CENTRE Art Residency, in London, 2018; O Peso e a Idéia, at Plataforma Revólver gallery, in Lisbon, 2012; Co-Pression, at Museu Casa Bernardo, in Caldas da Rainha, 2011.
Her work is held in private collections in the UK, Germany, Belgium, France, Netherlands and Portugal.
