Ana Vidigal

Lisbon, 1960. Lives and works in Lisbon.

Ana Vidigal uses painting, collage, assemblage and installation as processes of decontextualization and reconfiguration of images taken from various sources, exploring social and political values, talking about time and the memories they carry.

She concluded the Painting Course at the Escola Superior de Belas-Artes de Lisboa in 1984. She received a grant from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation (1985-1987). She did an internship in Metal Engraving with Bartolomeu Cid, Casa das Artes de Tavira (1989). She was a resident painter at the Museum of Contemporary Art - Fortaleza de São Tiago, Funchal (1998/1999).
In 1995 and 2002, she was invited by the Lisbon Underground to execute tile panels for the stations of Alvalade and Alfornelos, respectively. She represented Portugal in the Sharjha Biennial in 2009. She held her first anthological exhibition at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in 2010, entitled Menina Limpa, Menina Suja, curated by Isabel Carlos. Her last solo exhibition was Bela e Má, at Museu Leopoldo de Almeida, in Caldas da Rainha.
She attended an art residency in Ifitry, Morocco, in 2013. In October 2018, at the invitation of the Embassy of Portugal in Colombia, she held two Master Classes in Bogotá (Universidad de los Andes and FLORA ars+natura), and one site-specific (Universidad de los Andes).
