In all of these practices, the use of water is crucial, namely in the production of handmade cotton paper which, in her work, is the genesis of the design and installations.

Guest artist Vasco Barata in conversation with curator João Silvério
October 22nd, at 6.30 pm

"The importance that images represent in the creative universe of this artist is recognised, but it is also undeniable that this universe distends itself in a myriad of formulations from these images as symbols of a fragmented culture, wild if we like, voracious and savage in the way it leads us, under the guise of these symbols and referents, to a permanent crossroads that unfolds in multiple and anachronistic spaces."

September 4th, at 6.30 pm

“Alexandre Baptista's work is based on compositions that bring together paintings, texts and images from different origins, articulated in the search for a new entity. In these works, the artist appropriates writings and old black and white photographs to, with the introduction of painting, problematize a (re)construction of meaning, equating the notion of coexistence, individuality and series.”

"Showing coherence, rigour and dedication, the themes approached are recurrent: space, time, solitude. And Pedro Gomes’ Midas touch is nothing less than the ability to show us more, to go beyond the banality of the everyday, the imagistic source of which is used to create, in a kind of anti-ready-made."

Guest artist Pedro Vaz in conversation with curator João Silvério
28 de Junho às 18h30

“At first glance, the exuberance of the landscapes represented by the artist Pedro Vaz infects our soul, the harmony of the forms, the capture of light and the chromatic calm awaken in us a feeling of empathy. We know this place, it is dear to us, precious and pristine. A closer look at the set of shapes, we move away from the first, elementary questions that evoke nature, to enter a field of transition, of approximation. Pedro Vaz is part of a group of artists that has been systematically exploring the approximation between nature and culture to make possible different sensibilities from those generated from the colonization of natural spaces.”

Guest artist Luís Silveirinha in conversation with curator João Silvério
May 18th, 6.30 pm

“… Luís Silveirinha invents figures, universes, beings; his drawing does not come from photographic images or from other arts. It is not an appropriation or a reproduction, but a fabulation instigated by visual memories and mental images, which, on the surface, lets see - and in this there is a generosity which is indifferent to the “need” of any teleological direction (of art) - motifs, contours, things, landscapes, relationships. ” José Marmeleira, in Jornal Público, 2019.
